Meeting Notes from Thursday 3-29-07

The attendees were: Bill Kranz, Daven Schanze, Lisa Watson, Ron Turnbough, Chris Rowley, John Doggett, Nancy Galvin, Beth Heine, and Bob LaRouche.

Personal Plots Update: We felt that there was some new room to expand into up to 25 folks. There is still one plot open and No. 4 is too small to allot to an individual so Lisa will plant there with plants from the Great Plant Sale coming up. Marian has offered to update the map and Bill has a listing of the individuals involved. It is really great to have this level of involvement. Thank you again.

Budget and Fundraising Review We have nearly $1000.00 in the bank with a bill outstanding but real soon there will be some money spent by our team. We are keeping an eye on various fundraising events as for the Gazebo for which we will need $6,000-8,000.00. And I’m wondering where our Gazebo “Angel” is?? Practically everything else we do or want or wish for as happened. So where is she, where is she?

(Diverging ahead a few days: I think I saw her, for a second, riding the top bow of the glorious rainbow we saw Saturday after our Easter Egg Hunt event. Did you see the rainbow?)

Seasonal Social Event Calendar Review We are all hyped up about our inaugural garden social event. There will be fine food, new friends to see and make, and children having fun. I see the eggs already hiding in the garden. I see pictures being taken and the scary threat of a rainout. How will we do? Keep an eye on the BPNA website for the update.

Site neighbor John McKinstry offered to bar-b-que for us at a future event. He is an excellent cook in regard to the Soulard Oktoberfest event.

Vehicular Denial Barrier Suggestions We talked about rocks, fencing, berms, curbing and the like.

Mulberry Grove Proposals Lisa was talking about a need to trim a high dead branch for safety’s sake. We talked about Chandler Loos’s offer to cut down, for $500.00, the ice-damaged Mulberry Tree and remove the limb pile but we declined the offer. We will attempt to use our own volunteer resources to do this as needed. Bill also brought up the idea to use the main trunk as a birdhouse attachment site and Lisa mentioned bat houses also. So for now the tree survives.

The Vegetable Garden and Rest of the Garden Some of our tasks needed are to till the vegetable area when the soil dries out a bit more, and to prep the soil berm at the herb garden section. Other tasks are to build the arbors, install the bench, signs, and mulch walls.
Watering, Mowing and Weeding We need to set up a schedule for watering, mowing and will address this more at the BPNA general meeting. Later, the vegetable garden will need weeding unless we go with a mulch garden, etc.

English Cave Issues Bill read a draft letter to the lot’s former owner, Pastor Preston Miller. He has let Marian look the letter over for her input. Sandy will fine tune the letter’s wording and we will discuss it again. Then we will present it to the BPNA for final review and plan of action. (Neighbor Debbi Carroll has suggested establishing goodwill with the congregation also in a recent e-mail.)

Gateway Greening Update We let everyone at this meeting look the plant listing over and select some plants from the Great Plant Sale. Lisa will mail the list off by April 6th. If you want to volunteer to offset our 30 hours please let Gateway know and Bill or Daven also as we need to log the hours to get credit. Thanks again for your help.

Next Group Work Day We have set up a date for Saturday April 14th from 12 noon till 6 p.m. Bring some basic work tools and your good energy.

Next Leadership Planning Meeting These will always be the LAST Thursday of each month, whether the 4th or 5th Thursday.

Notes prepared by Bill Kranz. For critical revisions please email me.
