Committee meeting notes Benton Park
English Cave Community Garden
1960 arsenal storefront, Wednesday, November 19, 2008 7:15 pm
Present: Marian Amies; Nancy Galvin; Clinton Berry; Bill Kranz; Bob
LaRouche; Chris Rowley;
1. Fundraising:
Trivia night planning. Nancy Galvin. Nancy was going to continue to
question with Jessica if the Benton Park cafe can be hosting the
event. A lottery auction 50/50 was suggested as well as a silent
auction. Nancy, Lisa and Marian will meet on Tuesday November 25 at
Lisa’s house to go over plans for the trivia event.
Frazier’s Mardi Gras event. Bob
reported that he understood the intention of the incoming board for
2009 for fundraising revenue would be for each committee to present
their proposal for the year and make specific funding requests
directly to the executive board for their consideration and
approval. In this manner distribution of funds would be on an
equitable basis on need and the would foster cohesion in the
neighborhood association. The committee felt this would be a
reasonable procedure. Marian referred to written notes about the
structure of committees prepared by Erica in 2008.
2. Gateway Greening grant
application submitted on November 14. An in depth garden
accomplishment report prepared by Marian was attached to the
application and disseminated at the meeting with the agenda. Marian
reported that she and Lisa completed the grant application
requesting funding for a waterline and a 10 ft. cedar wood gazebo
kit. Marian delivered the expansion grant application to Gateway
Greening by the November 14 deadline. Signatures of the gardeners
willing to be involved in the reciprocal volunteer requirement are
still needed for the grant documentation. The waterline would be a
partial funding request since this funding had also been requested
on the Lutheran Grant written by Deanna Sanvi. Bill reported that
Deanna told him that it is likely that the $1,500 grant request she
applied for would be funded and notification would be coming very
shortly.
3. English Cave issues for
discussion. Bill Kranz. Bill distributed a questionnaire on
interest in the English Cave and will do this again at the next
meeting. The committee felt that since the lease on our garden is
two years into the five years in 2009, it would be advisable to
start investigating a land trust for the community garden land. Bob
said that he would start investigating this.
Next meeting date. Because New Year’s
Eve falls on the normal last Wednesday in the month group meeting
date, the committee decided on December 17, 7.15 pm 1960 Arsenal for
the next meeting date.
The meeting adjourned early so that
garden members could attend the BP Happy Hour event at the Benton
Park Cafe.
