English Cave Community Garden

Present: Marian Amies; Clinton Berry; Nancy Galvin; Bill Kranz; Bob
LaRouche; Sandy LaRouche; Deanna Sanvi; Daven Schanshe; Lisa Watson
Trivia night planning. Nancy reported that confirmation has
been received for the event to be held at the Benton Park Cafe on
February 7th. A meeting time to plan the event, develop the
questions, and prepare a press release to send to Tom Hockett for
distribution was discussed and Lisa, Deanna, Marian, Clinton and
Sandy would be part of the planning process after the holiday
period. Sandy agreed to be the Mistress of Ceremonies, and Marian
volunteered to prepare the visual images and arrange the projection
of images; Nancy will prepare questions on science, Sandy suggested
baby pictures of famous celebrities and politicians; knocking on the
door of famous addresses and who would answer etc. Bill is
attempting to arrange for the sound system and speakers for the
event. The committee will propose to Jessica at Benton Park Cafe
that the admission price would be $25 per person and that the cafe
would serve food as part of the cover charge. Lisa and Daven would
talk to Jessica and plan a suitable menu with Jessica. Nancy, Marian
and Lisa planned to meet on Tuesday December 24 at Benton Park Cafe
to talk with Jessica. Clinton volunteered to donate a ceramic pot
for the auction and members made suggestions of other suitable
auction items including a weekly basket of produce from the garden;
and dinner at the fire station as auction items. It was suggested
that a rehearsal of how the event will proceed be accomplished on
January 28 at the regular garden meeting. 6 - 8 volunteers will be
needed to run the event.
Garden Memorials. Daven said
that a neighbor has requested that a memorial be placed in the
garden as a remembrance of a loved one. The committee discussed
whether this should be etched bricks or a memorial bench.
Gateway Greening grant application
submitted on November 14. Marian handed out a list for the the
garden meeting attendees to sign for their volunteer commitment for
the Gateway Greening grant. an update is being sent with this list
and garden photographs to deliver to Gateway Greening by December 31
for an addendum to the Expansion Grant submitted on November 14. A
letter detailing the Lutheran Foundation grant award and Alderman
Ken Ortmann’s proposed request for a waterline funding for the
community garden were also documented to Gateway Greening as per
their request for additional information.
English Cave issues for
discussion. Bill distributed an English Cave Area action plan
with a proposal to draft a letter for the new BPNA board to look
over and sign on to. Attendees were asked to submit their comments
on the handout and bring them to the next meeting.
